REPLACEMENT WINDOW APPLICATION
Unpackage window and check to insure the following items are
included:
(2) 2 1/2" Flathead Screws for Hinge
(4) 2" Installation Screws
(1) Handle
- Measure New Window For Squareness
Measure window unit width and height to insure
correct size. Measure frame and sash diagonally
from corner to corner. Each measurement should
not exceed 1/16" difference.
- Check Rough Opening
Verify rough opening size against actual window
size to insure correct fit. Check rough opening
for squareness by measuring diagonally from corner
to corner.
- Removal Of Old Window - Preparing The Opening
Remove the old window along with any obstructions
which may exist in the opening. Remove all dirt
and debris and fill all voids with insulation.
- Sill Preparation
It is very important that the sill of the
opening be flat and level. The sill must also
be a minimum of 3 1/4" wide to support the casement
window frame. It may be necessary to replace a
sloped sill to insure that your sill will accommodate
the casement window frame.
- Visible Check For Squareness And Adjustments
Position window in opening to insure window
is square and level. It may be necessary to shim
window to achieve squareness. A visible check
would be to examine the perimeter of the exterior
flap seal. There should be a consistent space
between the frame and the sash around the entire
perimeter of the window. Once you are confident
the window is square and the sash/frame relationship
is correct, remove the window and permanently
secure the shims.
- Caulk
Caulk against any stops being used and place
the window tightly against the caulk.
- Secure The Window
Open the sash. Secure the window by installing
the four 2" installation screws into the side
of the frame. Locate the screws 4" from the top
and bottom of each jamb and screw into the sash
track.
(See Illustration, Point Z)
Notes:
- Casement windows 48" or taller require one additional installation
screw (enclosed) located in the center of
both side jambs.
- Mulled units require additional installation screws (enclosed)
located 4" on either side of mullion in the
head.
- Awning windows 44" or wider require one additional installation
screw located in the center of the head.
- DO NOT PLACE INSTALLATION SCREWS IN THE SILL.
- Check Operation
Check the window operation a few times to
insure that the sash closes smoothly into the
frame, all locks operate correctly and there is
a consistent space between the sash and the frame.
(Some silicone spray may be needed on the exterior
flap where the flap comes in contact with the
mainframe.) Again check for squareness and place
additional shims if necessary.
- Remove Hinge Screws
For additional strength, replace screws located
closest to the hinge jamb in head and sill of
master frame with 2 1/2" flat head screws provided.
Replace screw with 2 1/2" flat head screw with
2 1/2" screw provided. (See Illustration)

NEW CONSTRUCTION APPLICATION
- It is necessary that the window be installed plumb, level
and square to insure proper performance and achieve
compliance with manufacturer's warranty.
- Close and lock sash before installing window.
- Using a premium grade exterior silicone caulk, caulk the
inside of the window fin where the fin will contact
the rough opening.
- Center and level window opening. Nail one top corner (1 3/4"
roofing nails are recommended.) Then nail opposite
corner making sure the window top is level. This
will hang window to help assure unit is plumb,
level and square.
- Shim window side jambs properly locating shims to minimize
deflection of the frame. Use shims under frame
jamb at sill to square window as required.
- Complete installation by nailing every other hole from top
down.
- Use fiberglass insulation (or equal) to fill all perimeter
voids. (Do not use expandable foam insulation
because of the possible chance for frame distortion
which could impede proper operation of unit.)
- Flash the exterior of window to preclude entry of water into
wall cavity.
- Caulk the exterior perimeter between window frame and trim.
These instructions are meant as a guide only. Code compliance
and architectural design may differ from instructions.
These will cover most basic installation procedures.
