1.) HOW TO MEASURE YOUR OPENING
TO ORDER THE REPLACEMENT WINDOW |
|
Read all of these instructions
before measuring. Measure ALL WINDOWS that you intend
replacing.
In ordering windows, please provide opening size
only. Manufacturing will deduct the following:
After 1/4"
deduction widths will be cut to the nearest 1/8"
increment.
After
1/4" deduction heights will be cut to the nearest
1/8" increment.
WIDTH - 13" (Minimum) 54" (Maximum)
HEIGHT - 19" (Minimum) 91" (Maximum)
|
|
Measure between the jambs at 3 points.
Measure at Top, Middle and Bottom of
window opening.
Measure from the surface of the jambs,
not from the trim strips or parting
beads in your old window opening.
Use the SMALLEST of these three
width measurements to order the window!
|

|
|
Measure from the high point of the sill of
your window (the surface closest to the inside of
window) to the top of the window opening. Make
two measurements: one at the left side of the window
and one at the right side of the window.
Use the SMALLEST of these two height measurements
to order the window!
Take these two dimensions for each window you are
ordering, to your dealer. He will supply
you with the
correct size windows for
your openings. |

|
|
Dimensions Needed (Ignore all pulleys and
parting strips when measuring for depth dimensions as
they will beremoved for replacement window installation)
There must be at least 3 1/4" of opening depth between
the
inside Window Trim and the outside Blind Stop Strip.
This much area is needed to accept the depth of
the Replacement Window! |

|
|
2.) REMOVAL OF EXISTING WINDOW |
|
Check new windows
before you tear out opening. Make sure you have correct
amounts and sizes. |
|
| Caulking Gun |
Chisel |
|
Phillips Head Screw Driver |
Square |
|
Pocket Knife or Tin Snips |
3/32" Drill Bit |
|
Hammer |
Electric Drill |
|
|
- Carefully remove all inside trim or stops, since
you will reuse this
material.
- Cut bottom sash balance cord or chain and remove
the panel.
- Remove the middle parting strips at the sides
and top.
- Cut top sash balance cord or chain and remove
the panel.
- Remove the sash pulleys or hammer into the jamb
so the jambs are flush and unobstructed.
- Leave the exterior stop (blind stop) intact
to prevent the replacement window from falling
through.
- Clean opening thoroughly and caulk or use insulation
to fill the old holes.
|

|
3.) REPLACING WINDOW |
|
1. Apply a liberal caulking bead along the
inside of the blind stop at the top and both sides where
the window frame will make contact. Also apply caulking
beneath the sill angle. |
|
2. Install sill angle above
blind stop. |

|
|
3. Place expander on top of
window and caulk along top of expander. |

|
|
4. A.) Set window in opening,
resting on sill angle. |

|
|
B.) Window
must be squared to operate properly. |

|
|
C.) Determine
if any wood shims are needed to keep the window plumb,
square and centered in the opening. |

|
|
5. Raise the bottom sash and the two sash
bumper stops at the top. Install a screw into the jambs
at each side of the window. Make screws snug, not too
tight. (Installation holes are pre-drilled.) |
|
6. Lower the top sash and the two bumper
stops at the top. Install a screw into the jambs at
each side of the window. Make screws snug, not too tight.
|
|
7. The window must be centered and squared
in the opening. Check to be sure window frame is square
and adjust installation screws if necessary.
|
|
8. Lift expander to flush with top of opening.
Drill holes and secure with small screws at lowest part
of expander to insure contact with window. |

|
|
9. The jamb adjustment screws are located at the middle
of track on both sides of the window. Turning the screws
in a clockwise direction will cause the jamb middles
to "pull" toward the center of window. This adjustment
is necessary to give a close and even alignment between
the sides of panels and the jambs, and to assure proper
panel operation. The distance between the operating
panels and the jambs of the window should not exceed
1/16". After making partial adjustment, replace the
panels, operate them and visually judge their alignment
with the jambs.
Adjustment may have to be made several times until satisfactory
performance is achieved. Adjustments can also be made
by loosening and tightening the previously installed
jamb screws. In extreme cases the old window opening
might be badly "bowed". If the adjustments do not solve
this problem, wood shims will have to be used between
the rough opening and the replacement window jambs.
If the top expander channel is used, adjust it up against
the rough opening. Install it there, with three screws,
thru the leg of the channel into the vinyl window frame.
This can be done from either inside or from outside. |
|
10. Caulk around the entire perimeter of
the window on the inside. Replace the old window trim
strips or install new strips around the inside of the
window at head and jambs. |
