Double Hung Window Sash Replacement

  1. Tilt the sash open 90 degrees. (See Figure 1) Tilt latches are located at either side on top of the sash.
  2. Gradually raise one side of the sash higher than the other side until sash comes out of place (See Figure 2).
  3. Pivot bar on sash fits into pivot shoe in main frame jamb
    (See Figure 3).

TO REMOVE EITHER SASH:

  1. To replace sash put pivot bar into highest shoe and push down to align other pivot bar with lower shoe.
  2. Tilt sash back up and lock into place.
CAUTION: The balances are pretensioned to operate with the weight of the sash. When the sash is removed, the balances will "snap up" if the balance lock is not properly engaged (See Figure 3). Make sure the lock is engaged before removing the sash. (The lock should be engaged when the sash is tilted to the 90° position. The slot in the pivot shoe should be in a vertical position). If the balance does "snap up", place the head of a flat head screwdriver in the slot of the pivot shoe, pull the pivot shoe down to where it was before it "snapped up", and twist the screwdriver 1/4 to 1/2 turn until the slot is in a vertical position.
